Alternating North‐South Brightness Ratio of Ganymede's Auroral Ovals: Hubble Space Telescope Observations Around the Juno PJ34 Flyby

چکیده
We report results of Hubble Space Telescope observations from Ganymede's orbitally trailing side which were taken around the flyby Juno spacecraft on June 7, 2021. find that northern and southern auroral ovals alternate in brightness such oval facing Jupiter's magnetospheric plasma sheet is brighter than other one. This suggests generator powers aurora momentum Jovian north south magnetosphere. Magnetic coupling Ganymede to above below moon causes asymmetric magnetic stresses electromagnetic energy fluxes ultimately powering acceleration process. No clear statistically significant time variability emission short scales 100s could be resolved. show electron several tens mW m$^{-2}$ are required for its OI 1356 \AA$\;$ making a very poor emitter.

COSMOS : Hubble Space Telescope Observations
The Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) was initiated with an extensive allocation (590 orbits in Cycles 12-13) using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) for high resolution imaging. Here we review the characteristics of the HST imaging with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and parallel observations with NICMOS and WFPC2. A square field (1.8⊓⊔) has been imaged with single-orbit ACS I-F814W expos...
متن کاملIntelligent Scheduling of Hubble Space Telescope Observations
This paper describes the S PIKE system, a general framework for scheduling which has been developed by the Space Telescope Science Institute for NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Efficient use of astronomical observatories is very important to the scientific community: the demand for research-grade telescopes far exceeds the supply. The need for efficient scheduling is especially keen for sp...
متن کاملSignature of Saturn’s auroral cusp: Simultaneous Hubble Space Telescope FUV observations and upstream solar wind monitoring
[1] Model simulations by Bunce et al. (2005a) have shown that direct precipitation of electrons in Saturn’s dayside cusp regions is not capable of producing significant FUV aurora. Instead, they suggested the possibility that the FUV bright emissions sometimes observed near noon are associated with reconnection occurring at the dayside magnetopause, possibly pulsed, analogous to flux transfer e...
متن کاملAsteroid observations with the Hubble Space Telescope ? FGS ? ?
We present the results of the observations of five Main Belt asteroids and one Trojan obtained using the Fine Guidance Sensors (FGS) of the Hubble Space Telescope. For each object, estimates of the spin axis orientation, angular size and overall shape, as well as possible indications of a binary structure, are derived. This enables the computation of new physical ephemerides. While the data con...
متن کاملGalactic Bulges from Hubble Space Telescope Nicmos Observations: Nuclear Properties
Using Hubble Space Telescope NICMOS images, we analyze the structural properties of bulges of S0-Sbc galaxies down to scales of ∼10 pc. Isophotal profiles are matched with those from widerfield, ground-based K-band images enabling us to sample from the nucleus to the disk-dominated region of each galaxy, and thus to include proper bulge-disk decompositions in the analysis. The majority of galax...
